Almevan, established in 2004, is Spain’s foremost distributor of high-quality neurodiagnostic equipment and accessories, specializing in Neurology, Neurophysiology, and Pulmonology.
Headquartered in Madrid, with branches in Barcelona and Seville, Almevan provides a wide range of neurodiagnostic products. Their offerings include EMG and EEG systems, polysomnography equipment, intraoperative monitoring, and transcranial magnetic stimulators. Partnering with top manufacturers, Almevan brings advanced neurodiagnostic solutions to healthcare providers across Spain, supporting better patient care and medical innovation.
The Challenge
With its diverse portfolio, Almevan needed a versatile integration solution to connect their neurodiagnostic equipment with varying hospital information systems. Each hospital posed unique challenges, as some used a single neurodiagnostic solution, while others used multiple Almevan solutions concurrently. This situation demanded an integration that could handle diverse workflows, including patient data management, appointment scheduling, and seamless transmission of diagnostic results to multiple hospital systems.
Meditecs faced the added challenge of accommodating each hospital’s specific technological requirements and scaling to meet their ongoing demands. Integrations involved a range of communication protocols and standards, such as HL7 messaging, web service queries, proprietary software, and DICOM Worklists. Additionally, Meditecs needed to develop a solution that could integrate multiple Almevan systems using a single integration engine. These Almevan systems, in turn, had to connect with various hospital systems, allowing the same engine to manage interactions across multiple systems from both sides.
The Solution
Utilizing our Meditecs Smart Connect integration engine, we developed a comprehensive, adaptable solution for Almevan’s neurodiagnostic equipment. This engine enabled efficient, reliable on-site deployments across various hospitals, enhancing interoperability between hospital information systems and Almevan’s equipment. Our tailored approach allowed us to go beyond standard protocols, creating custom solutions for each healthcare setting.

The integrations with Almevan covered key operational workflows:
- Appointment Management: Integrated through HL7 messages, including SIU, ORM, OMG, and ADT types, as well as web service queries and DICOM Worklists.
- Demographic Data Updates: Facilitated through HL7 ADT messages and web service queries, supporting patient data updates and patient merges as needed.
- Report Integration: Diagnostic reports, such as PDFs, were integrated using HL7 ORU or MDM messages, SFTP or SMB file sharing, and DICOM transmission for efficient, compliant sharing.
Meditecs Smart Connect engine allowed us to deliver these integrations rapidly and affordably, connecting Almevan’s equipment with hospital systems in a scalable manner that could accommodate the high level of customization required.
Follow Up
Since implementing this solution, Meditecs has successfully deployed integrations for three distinct Almevan neurodiagnostic solutions across more than 30 hospitals. We continue to support and maintain these integrations, ensuring optimal functionality and addressing any evolving needs.
