The publication highlights the growing importance of interoperability in digital pathology. It showcases how industry collaboration, open standards, and real-world validation are accelerating the adoption of scalable digital pathology ecosystems.
At the center of this transformation is a clear industry challenge. The challenge is enabling scanners, PACS/IMS platforms, viewers, LIS systems, AI tools, and cloud infrastructures from different vendors to work together seamlessly in clinical environments. The Connectathon demonstrated that achieving true interoperability requires not only standards such as DICOM and IHE. In addition, it requires practical implementation and validation across multiple vendors and workflows.
Meditecs Driving Real-World Digital Pathology Interoperability
At Meditecs, interoperability is not just a concept — it is a practical reality enabled by our DICOMPath platform.
Our technology was successfully used during the Connectathon to support interoperability workflows based on the IHE DPIA profile. It helped participants integrate and communicate across heterogeneous digital pathology environments. This initiative demonstrated how standardized, vendor-neutral architectures can simplify the integration of scanners, image management systems, LIS platforms, AI analyzers, and cloud-based infrastructures.
The Connectathon results reinforced a key industry message: the future of digital pathology depends on open, interoperable ecosystems rather than isolated proprietary solutions.
